Quick question for you. When was the last time you took a really good deep breath? One where you just took a deep breath and actually let it out all the way. If you can’t remember, you’re not alone. Most of us are walking around half-breathing and don’t even know it because we are moving at such a fast pace through life.
I learned something a few years back that changed things for me. Your breath out matters more than your breath in. When you let your breath out slow and long, your body gets a little signal that says, we’re okay right now. We’re safe.
Most people think detox only happens through cleanses and supplements, but one of the main ways your body detoxes every single day is actually through breathing. Every full exhale helps your body release carbon dioxide and tension you’ve been holding onto. But when we’re stressed, we tend to breathe shallow and fast, especially in the chest, and never fully let the breath out.
Try this. 👉 Breathe in slowly through your nose for about 4 seconds. Then let it out even slower for 6 to 8 seconds. Don’t force it. Just slow and gentle. The long exhale is the part that helps calm the nervous system. And what I like to do is to close my eyes and imagine myself fully present with Jesus holding me or walking with me. This is huge. I challenge you to try it this week.
It’s so simple and effective. Try it right now if you can and tell me what you notice.
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”
